Our Team

Lucas Ryle

Director

Lucas has been the fearless leader of Design 21 Architecture since its inception at his home office at 21 Bendigo St. Lucas graduated from RMIT in 2005 with a Diploma in Building Design and became registered as a Building Designer in 2015. With a decent stint traveling Europe in between the love for all aspects of design was entrenched in his thinking. With the rigours of chasing around two beautiful children hitting the ski slopes in winter and lakes in summer help keep a solid work life balance.

Richard Latimer

Senior Draftsperson

An integral part of the Design 21 team, Richard graduated with an Advanced Diploma of building design from RMIT in 2017 and has worked for us ever since.

Alongside his passion for terrible French Cinema and even worse Tennis, Richard has a real love for passive, sustainable and brutalist design. His experience in a diverse range of projects and rigour for design and execution makes him a valuable addition to the practice.

Matthew Maselli

Junior Draftsperson

New kid on the block, retired Soccer professional, Pasta Master.

After cutting his teeth completing his apprenticeship as a Fitter and Turner in Gippsland, Matthew has completed his Adv Diploma in Building Design at Holmesglen TAFE and joined our team, offering sound construction knowledge from his apprenticeship days and genuine interest in building design.

After only his first year on the team he has proved to be extremely useful and versatile in his knowledge and abilities, and more so in his work ethic.

Our History

After working diligently for a small Architectural firm for just under a decade, Lucas branched out and engaged in some freelance drafting before undertaking the necessary registration process and began his own practice in the mid 2010s.

After some time of experiencing a vast range of projects – from residential alterations and additions to commercial scale and repair/reinstatement works – Lucas has managed to take on a series of outstanding jobs that have both inspired and required him to hire and train numerous building design graduates, some of which have gone on to work for other fantastic Architecture Firms.

This collected knowledge of both Lucas and his staff has transformed the small operation into a fully fledged building design firm.
